These easy to follow, step by step, comprehensive instructions with detailed pattern take you through the process of making a beautiful, Button Jointed Rat using many of the same techniques that Bear Artists have practised for over a Century.

To make this little fellow, you will need:

.  27cm/10.6” x 17.5cm/6.9” fabric 1 for the body, head and limbs

.  14cm/5.5” x 9cm/3.6” fabric 2 for paws, feet and inner ears

.  12cm/4.7” long 5mm/0.2” wide cord for the tail

.  25g/9.8oz approx’ stuffing (polyfibre, kapok, cotton etc, if you want to                

   add weight, use steel shot, plastic pellets etc)

.  80cm/32” nose thread (pink cotton perle works well)

.  150cm/59” cotton perle or stranded cotton thread for jointing

.  8mm/0.3” glass eyes

.  75cm/30” extra strong thread for inserting the eyes

.  2 x 20mm/0.8” buttons for the head joint

.  4 x 13mm/0.5” buttons for the arm and leg joints

.  a doll needle for inserting your rat’s eyes

.  Matching sewing thread, general purpose sewing needle and

   pins

.  Fabric scissors and paper scissors

.  Tailor’s chalk or ballpoint pen

.  Soft toy stuffer (a wooden chop stick works well).
